Drop Clutches

Use in combination with a double pedal to allow quick and easy release of your Hi-Hat cymbals.
Drop-clutch is a mechanism to disengage the top hi-hat in order to free up both feet while double bass playing. This results in the hi-hat producing a closed sound until the hi-hat foot is available again. The mechanism is disabled by fully pressing the hi-hat pedal. Drop-clutches are normally controlled by a hit on the clutch using the drumstick to release the top cymbal. By pressing the hi-hat pedal again, the drummer allows the clutch to grab the top cymbal back again.
There are normally two different basic ways in how to release the Drop-Cluth, either you hit the lever from the side (e.g. Pearl) to release the clutch. The other way is that you hit it from the top downwards (e.g. Gibraltar, DW, Yamaha). Another way to control the hi-hat playing double bass is to use Tama's Cobra Clutch which is controlled by your left foot (if playing right sided). It is a small two heel plate extra pedal attached to your left of the hi-hat to control the top hi-hat position. This clutch-control lets you choose how much the hi-hat should be closed and the drop is controlled by your foot, not with the sticks.
