As one of the most exciting drum companies in Britain, British Drum Company drum kits have risen to become one of the most sought after kits in the UK today. Their drums consist of handmade shells produced in the UK using Scandinavian Birch, adhering to British drum making traditions; with the focus on stunning design, innovation and high quality materials.
Founded in 2015 by award winning master drum maker Keith Keough, Brit Award winning Kasabian drummer Ian Matthews, world renowned comedian and drum lover Al Murray, Her Majesty’s Royal Marines Corps drummer Stu Warmington, and prolific engineering designer Alan Kitching.
The key to the British Drum Company’s signature sound is their Cold-Press Moulding technique used in the manufacture of their drums. As the name suggests, this eliminates the use of heat in the shell building process, maintaining the full sonic potential of the wood which would otherwise be compromised by the addition of heat in the pressing procedure.
The Lounge Club is combination of perfectly blended mahogany and birch shells which gives life to a vibrant, full-bodied tone and is aided by a rounded 30 degree bearing edge which gives the shell greater connection with the drum head. All Lounge Series drums are fitted with Palladium lugs which are inspired from the Art-Deco period and are centre mounted on the shell. These lugs complete the vintage feel and style. The kits are then beautifully finished with BDC’s trademark mahogany and birch bass drum hoops, which are produced from the same mahogany and birch as both the Lounge and Legend Series drums.
A great combination of woods is featured in the Lounge Series shells. With a thin 5.5mm mahogany and birch shell lovingly hand made from grade A timber. The tonal characteristics of the clean sounding birch is complimented with the warm darker tones of the mahogany unleashing a full-bodied yet clean tone that sings through like no other shell on the market today
The bearing edge on the Lounge shell, plays an important role in the drum’s sound. Its 30 degree round over bearing edge gives more shell to head contact providing more body to its overall sound. The same edge is cut on all the Lounge Series shells to ensure unity and balance across the drum range.
Cold Press Moulding
“Cold Press Moulding” is key to the British Drum Co’s signature sound. Using years of experience in wood working and drum shell manufacture they believe the secret to their sound and the key to a stable drum shell is the absence of heat when pressing and moulding the shells. Timber and shells are allowed to naturally acclimatise to the surrounding environment before and after being moulded. Regarded as the finest shells reviewed by Geoff Nichols of Rhythm Magazine.
