Ludwig Legacy Mahogany 22″ Fab 3 Piece Shell Pack – Black Oyster

A legend returns. The most sought after drum tone of the last 50 years is back with a return of Ludwig’s 3-ply Mahogany/Poplar/Mahogany shell. The ideal drum kit for anyone wanting to recapture those warm vintage tones without the inevitable down sides of vintage shells. This shell pack is a classic brought into the modern era.

This kit is presented in the Fab configuration with a 22×14″ Bass Drum, 13×9″ Tom and 16×16″ Floor Tom. It is finished in the Black Oyster finish made famous by Ringo Starr in the 60’s.

The sound made famous by Ringo Starr and the Beatles in the very same finish and configuration that Ringo used himself.

  • “The Beatles Drum Kit” exact same sizes, style and colour as Ringo used with the Beatles.
  • Mahogany/Poplar/Mahogany Shells
  • 30 Degree bearing edge for a rounded open tone
  • Solid Maple Reinforcement Rings
  • Cross Laminated Internal Core of Poplar
The Shells

The key to the Ludwig Legacy’s classic tone starts with a cross-laminated American Poplar centre ply which lends focus to the naturally rich low-end tones provided by the exterior maple plies. This classic shell combination is further stabilised with a rounded bearing edge and 1/4″ solid maple reinforcement rings.

The Bearing Edge

The bearing edge itself is a 30 degree inner cut with a 1/4″ radius round over. This produces a pure, well-rounded tone, Legacy Series calls back to the unforgettable sound that lead the way in pop and rock music throughout the 20th Century.

The Finish

Black Oyster is the quintessential finish that Ludwig are known for. The most sought after finish by collectors in the Ludwig range. This is largely due to it being the finish of choice of Ringo Starr whilst playing with The Beatles. It also just looks amazing.

The Sound

Classic warm and open vintage tones. The sound that shaped the history of rock and pop music played by the likes of Ringo Starr and John Bonham, these are the drums you’ve been hearing all your life.
