Drum are loud! It’s one of the things we love about them but its also what other people hate about them! Silence pads can be essential for keeping the peace with the neighbours or other members of the family. Believe it or not, not everyone loves full volume drums! (I know. I’m as shocked as you). Thankfully pads have came on a lot from the early days and now a days still retain some of the tone of the drums when struck and the high tech neoprene material actually feels pretty good to play on. Older models would mute the drum entirely and create a terrible playing experience.

Low volume practise is a good habit to get into as without the resultant ear fatigue you will often practise longer and harder.

Silence pads are a great option as they can come on and off easily, letting you decide each time whether you want a full volume session or a toned down one. We recommend QT Silence Packs as a great value range of pads that do everything you would expect.

A great option for silencing a kit whilst still retaining more of the tone of the drums is Remo Silentstroke Heads. The down side of this is that you are still left with loud cymbals unless you opt for something like Sabian Quiettone Cymbals too.
