The Mapex 22″ Saturn Evolution Birch/Walnut 5-Piece Shell Pack – Tuscan Yellow takes the five-drum Workhorse configuration and gives it the faster, drier voice of birch/walnut shells. Birch sharpens the attack and keeps each stroke distinct, while walnut adds depth so the drums still sound muscular rather than clinical. Chamber Specific Design changes shell thickness and bearing-edge geometry by drum size, helping the set feel connected from the first rack tom to the bass drum. In practice, the Halo mounts let you open up the rack-tom sustain or rein it in with the adjustment knob, which is handy when moving between lively stages and controlled recording rooms.

The brand new Saturn Evolution Series features a full range of sizes and blends that push the classic Mapex sound to its full potential. Hybrid shells of Birch/Walnut and Maple/Walnut are lacquered in a stunning range of finishes.
The order of the ply blend in the Evolutions hybrid shell has been adjusted to move the Walnut element to the central of the bearing edge, bringing a warmer, slightly darker voice to the range.
Rack and Floor Toms up to 16” are Dual Vented on the nodal line, while BassDrums and 18” Floors are all Quad Vented to allow frequencies to be evenly distributed.
Floor Toms all feature the new 90 degree leg, a feature from the Design Lab range, with new gaskets and Sonic Pedestal feet allowing the shells to resonate freely.
The new Mapex Halo mount features on all Saturn Evolution toms, and provides freedom of full resonance. Using a lateral and unique “under lug-line” suspension system, this groundbreaking isolation mount, allows the shell to speak with an open, pure tone, without the stiffness usually associated with under hoop mounting systems.
