Description
The DTX8K-X uses Yamaha’s Textured Cellular Silicone (TCS) playing surfaces across the snare and tom pads. TCS provides a comfortable, natural rebound designed to reproduce the response of acoustic drums while keeping acoustic playing volume low. Unlike conventional mesh heads, the TCS surfaces do not require tension adjustment, providing a consistent response every time the kit is played.
The pads use genuine birch shells built and finished using techniques developed through Yamaha’s acoustic drum manufacturing. This gives the DTX8K-X the visual presence and familiar positioning of a conventional drum set. The Black Forest finish provides a distinctive contemporary appearance while allowing the kit to look at home alongside professional acoustic drum equipment.
Pad Configuration:
- XP125SD-X 12″ TCS Snare Pad – 2-zone with hit-point detection
- 2 x XP105T-X 10″ TCS Rack Tom Pads – 2-zone
- XP105T-X 10″ TCS Floor Tom Pad – 2-zone
- KP90 7.5″ Kick Pad with multi-layer cushion
- RHH135 13″ Hi-Hat Pad – 2-zone
- 2 x PCY135 13″ Crash Cymbal Pads – 3-zone
- PCY155 15″ Ride Cymbal Pad – 3-zone with hit-point detection
The cymbal configuration includes two 13″ PCY135 crashes and a larger 15″ PCY155 ride. Each cymbal provides separate bow, edge and cup zones for detailed articulation, together with choke and mute functionality. Hit-point detection on the ride allows the sound to respond according to where the playing surface is struck, adding further tonal expression.
