Description
The DSU50 uses two specially developed condenser microphone capsules arranged in an XY stereo configuration. Mounted on the bass drum and facing towards the player, the microphones capture the complete kit with a wide and balanced stereo image, from the low frequencies of the bass drum through to the detail and shimmer of the cymbals. This allows a complete acoustic kit to be captured without the complexity of positioning multiple individual microphones.
Yamaha has physically isolated the microphone and sensor sections within the housing to reduce unwanted vibration and mechanical interference. This helps the DSU50 produce a clean and stable signal even when mounted directly to the bass drum and used at high playing volumes.
Integrated Trigger Sensor:
- Dedicated bass drum trigger built into the sensor unit
- Detects bass drum attacks across a wide dynamic range
- Allows electronic kick sounds to be layered with the acoustic bass drum
- Designed for use with the Yamaha EAD50 hybrid drum system
In addition to capturing the acoustic sound of the kit, the DSU50 incorporates a trigger sensor that detects each bass drum stroke. When connected to the EAD50, this can be used to layer electronic or sampled sounds alongside the natural acoustic bass drum, providing additional options for hybrid performance and sound design.
Flexible Mounting:
- Integrated bass drum hoop clamp
- Slim design helps avoid interference with tom positioning
- 3/8″ threaded mounting point
- Can also be positioned on a compatible microphone stand
Although designed primarily for bass drum hoop mounting, the DSU50 also features a standard 3/8″ threaded mount. This allows it to be positioned on a suitable microphone stand when a different perspective or greater distance from the kit is required. A second DSU50 can also be incorporated into a more extensive setup to provide additional cymbal detail and room ambience.
Connections and Included Accessories:
- 5-pin XLR stereo microphone connection
- 6.3mm trigger connection
- Dedicated 5-pin XLR to dual 3-pin XLR left/right breakout cable included
- Professional low-noise cable construction
Ideal For:
- Yamaha EAD50 users
- Recording a complete acoustic drum kit with minimal microphones
- Live drum amplification
- Home and studio recording
- Streaming and performance videos
- Hybrid acoustic and electronic drum setups
- Drummers looking for a quick and repeatable microphone setup
Please note: The Yamaha DSU50 is not compatible with the Yamaha EAD10.
