The Yamaha 22″ Recording Custom 5-Piece Shell Pack – Real Wood is built around 6-ply North American birch shells with dark-finished interiors, paired with R1.5 30-degree bearing edges. The North American birch construction keeps each stroke sharply defined, while weighted high-tension lugs trim stray overtones without choking the drum. The rounded R1.5 30-degree edges place more head against the shell than a sharp modern edge, adding depth while preserving a clear response. The same 22″, 10″, 12″ and 16″ Recording Custom layout is joined by a 14″ x 5″ birch snare, creating a complete set of recording drums with a consistent attack and decay. The snare responds quickly to ghost notes and higher tunings while keeping enough body for a firm backbeat.
