The Mapex 22″ Mars Birch Crossover 5-Piece Shell Pack – Diamond Sparkle is built around the one-up, two-down Crossover configuration. The single rack tom opens up the right-hand side of the kit for a close ride position, while two floor toms give fills a wide, muscular descent. A virgin 22″ bass drum keeps the shell free from a tom bracket. The 6-ply, 7.2 mm 100% birch shells keep the tone consistent across the set, while SONIClear bearing edges let each head sit flatter against the shell. In practice, that makes the kit quicker to tune and helps the fundamental come through clearly when the drums are miked or played in a lively room.
