Yamaha have taken their high-end drum design even further with the latest evolution of the Recording Custom. This iconic shell pack has been refined in collaboration with drumming legend Steve Gadd, resulting in a more focused, controlled sound with greater depth and a smoother, more rounded tonal character.

Constructed from 6-ply North American birch, the shells feature a newly developed 30-degree bearing edge and redesigned tension lugs, carefully weighted to enhance low-end response. The Shells
The 6-ply birch construction delivers clear, well-defined tones with natural EQ and strong projection. Birch is known for its punch and ability to minimise unwanted overtones, making it particularly effective in close mic and studio settings where clarity is essential.
The Lugs
The updated Recording Custom lugs are slightly heavier, helping to naturally control resonance without the need for additional damping. This allows the true tonal character of the birch shells to come through.
The Bearing Edge
Following extensive testing, a 30-degree bearing edge was chosen to increase contact between the drumhead and shell. This enhances sensitivity and responsiveness, allowing the drums to react more noticeably to different heads and tuning choices, giving players greater control over their sound.
